Drag Racing Margate Airport

Its’ all systems go on Sunday 9th August when the long awaited drag racing at the popular Margate Airport venue will turn the South Coast town into a hype of activity. More than 220 car and bike enthusiasts from all over KZN will have their adrenalin rush as they stage, launch and push their vehicles to the limit to be ahead at the finish line. KZN Motor Racing Chairman, Kas Moodley, says that the coastal venue is very popular among competitors and spectators alike and was last used in 2005. There are no restrictions to the vehicle modifications at this venue which will allow competitors to use Nitrous Oxide and other performance boosters.

Kzn’s contingency include a 9 second Honda, a 10sec Rotary bakkie from Richards Bay, a host of 11sec race cars and V8s, Subarus, BMW M3’s, and numerous turbocharged 4 cylinder race-cars. Bikes from KZN include the 9 second bikes of Faiz Mansoor and Jaco Viviers of Richards Bay that will be competing for the first time at the Margate venue.

 

Sponsors of the event are NNN Truck and Bus Spares, Dubsport and JCJ Projects. KZN Motor Racing Club is the largest drag racing club in the Country with over 1400 members on the database and is the only MSA club in South Africa that offers free membership in keeping with its’ Street2Strip program to minimize illegal street racing.

The event will be run in accordance with Motorsport South Africa rules and regulations.

Gates open at 08h00 and racing is from 08h30 to 16h00. Firearms, alcohol, glass bottles and braais will not be allowed whilst a special event security company has been employed to ensure public safety. A range of exhibition and food stalls will be available.

Tickets will be on sale at the venue: R40 for adults and R10 for kids under 12.
